| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The lot on RT 2 is not plowed (and they don't plow the one on Starr King rd in winter). We parked at the Golf building that's under construction, but that's probably not the best idea. |

Two of us in snowshoes start to finish from the trailhead to the viewpoint past Waumbek and back. Thanks to "kitten pride" for breaking this out yesterday, and to the pair of hikers we passed that further packed it down ahead of us this morning. Starting the day, the lower 1.5 miles was very packed and hard. Above that, there was a mix of fresh powder along the packed snoeshow packed trail that did involve extra effort but was still clear sailing. It definitely got easier to slide off the packed section in the powder the last mile up to Starr King. As the day went on and temps rose, things melted and got wet and sticky. Unfortunately, a bare booter came up behind us and postholed the whole trail and in general, made it a mess. That combined with the melt means I cannot say what the state of the trail will be like tomorrow. One other group of 3 - they came down in snowshoes partly after, partly before us(passed us near bottom). At any rate, it won't be completely unbroken - if by chance you hike it tomorrow before the rain. |
