I soloed up and down this route, snowshoe up till Harvard cabin and
Switched to crampons after. You could probably just bare boot it and avoid the
weight of snowshoes, since it appears a nearby ski resort was using snow groomer for some
part of the Tuckerman Ravine trail and it seemed shallow enough on the way back. The snow appeared unpacked and soft till the steep parts of the Lions head such as Wilcox step, but stable and packed enough on the steeper sections to get good traction with crampons and ice axe. Hardest part of this climb was the final 1000ft to the summit through thigh high post holes which took me 2 hrs. I butt sled through them on the way back so you should see a better path now. |
