Hiked up KRT the weather was in the high 30's low 40s with a north wind gusting 35+ the air had a nice chill if you stopped for more than three minutes you would be pretty cold. Hiking up I was in my base layer but layered up at the viewpoint (no views) and stayed layered up to the observation deck. Did a lap on the deck before leaving the summit and retreating to the summit cafe for lunch. Well having lunch the wind blew away the clouds and on the hike down saw the ridge across the street and was happy. The ground was frozen snow spikes were great. I used my snowshoes on the way up and switched to spikes for the hike down. on the way down the snow had a good grip and wasn't post-holing at all. The last 4/10th of a mile down the sun was shining and turning the snow into potato mush. Enjoy the next few days. Warmer temps on KRT will |
