| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking lot was untouched, with a 2ft deep plow snowbank and about 8-10 inches of wet snow at the top of the lot. We shoveled out the snowbanks and a space approximately 12 feet long and 6 feet deep, so plenty of room to drive into the lot. We have all wheel drive, not sure how 2 wheel drive would do getting up the slope to the lot |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow - Spring Snow, Slush |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossings were running fast, but able to cross all but the last one without getting wet. The last crossing had and an unstable snow bridge that collapsed under me. Water was knee deep! |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail isn’t draining well, multiple spots where it’s a river in the middle of the trail. Two blow downs easily stepped over |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
This trail is a good one for doggos, plenty of water for them to play in |
|
| Bugs: |
A few flying bugs trying to figure out where Spring went |

Is it weird that I did a happy dance when I realized the Mount Kinsman Trail from 116 gifted me with my very own Golden Ticket ???? today?! ???? Not only were we first snowshoes on the trail, but we were *also* gifted with clearing the snowbanks from the parking lot entrance so our Honda Pilot could slip-slide her way to a spot in the snow-covered lot!
The good news: down low there was only 4-6 inches of wet snow leftover from Snowmageddon, and packed down to perfection with snowshoes. Higher up, there was 8-12 inches of the same stuff, so our trench work between the two of us was SOLID.
The bad news: because this trail wasn’t broken out prior to the rain, it’s a 7-11 root beer slushy in several spots, and there’s a long section where a river of water obliterated alll the snow, so you definitely want to take off your snowshoes for this spot. Additionally, the water crossings were a little froggy. I mistook a snowbridge as solid and ended up in ice water up to my knees ???? Thankfully I always carry extra socks and the Plastic Bags of Shame ????, so we were at least able to make it to Bald Peak for some beautiful views of the Kinsmans and Moose! |
