I imagine this is a lovely and fairly easy hike in any other conditions.. Only one set of fading snowshoe prints from sometime this week. Long Pond Rd had a few inches of wet mushy slushy snow, snowshoes worked best here. After the actual start of the Bluberry Mtn Trail it's real thin snow coverage but I found snowshoes to still be the way to go, after switching to spikes for five minutes and losing my dodge ram mind. It was a take off and put on the snowshoes kind of day as the trail is quite the little stream at some points.. which was actually a relief because it was the best footing of the day, even with the mud. Once the trail really turns into a "woods trail" about halfway up, there was more snow and a bit easier (this is laughable) footing wise with snowshoes. Still really miserable, maybe 6-8 inches of snow at most. Closer to the summit there's a lot of exposed rock with some snowier areas. I may have postholed a couple times but it was more miserable for me than it'll be for anyone coming after. Very wet, slushy, muddy spring trail. |
