Comments
Comments: Very mixed bag conditions - snow/ice/mud below treeline, with a mix of snow, ice, dry and wet rock above treeline... but snow in all cases less than six inches after rain, so no use for snowshoes. We had bright sun drying out the slabs, so the whole hike was very doable with exospikes only, but with thawing conditions, there are the usual water tracks running down the rocks that will easily freeze if it gets colder. During shoulder / freeze & thaw season people should choose the counter-clockwise route due to the potential danger going down the slabs with ice. We carry hiking crampons any time we hike Welch Dickey in the winter or spring, but not necessary to use them yesterday.
