Trails
Trails: Kearsarge North Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, March 31, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The small lot on Hurricane Mt Road had lots of space when I started and was full when I finished. Winter parking on that road is tricky.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No crossings but there is a huge deep puddle right at the start which now has narrow, small logs for crossing. A bit jarring so soon in the hike. But not bad.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No issues. A few blowdowns, but they are stepovers.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great trail for dogs. I saw three. All seemed happy.
Bugs
Bugs: nope
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: n/a

Comments
Comments: Nice day. Great views from the summit and the upper ledges. Trail conditions were better than I expected. A mix of everything down low in the woods--snow, ice, mud, rocks/roots etc. Up high, as you get above the ledges, there is a nice firm snow track. Spikes worked great. No need for snowshoes. If we get significant warming, there is still enough snow up high that snowshoes may again be useful. It has melted out quite a bit in the lower parts.
