Comments
Comments: Snowshoes car to car today - Crawford Connector and Crawford Path up to Webster Cliff trail were well broken out, spikes probably would have been fine heading up but televators were useful and it was less weight on the packs. The mission today was Eisenhower for Ali's grid, so before we hit tree line we bundled up and prepared for a trail breaking extravaganza - fortunately it wasn't as bad as expected, mostly mid-shin depth with a few waist deep drifts here and there and even a few areas of bare rock. Someone had been to Eisenhower since the last storm, so between the very faint intermittent trough, the occasional partially visible cairns, and using our spidey senses, we were able to stay on trail except for two very short detours. Hit a few patches of wind blown styrofoam snow on the Eisenhower cone, but overall the wind was manageable all day. The views started opening up when we were headed back, and the ever shifting clouds made for some neat view windows. Made a quick stop on Pierce as well, because one does not walk by Pierce summit when in the neighborhood. Snow was getting very sticky in the sun on the way down, and anyone not in snowshoes was churning up the track. If heading to Eisenhower in the next few days, do not even think about doing this without snowshoes - this area notoriously gets wind blown, and our tracks had disappeared in several places between the hike out and the hike back. Sadly it may be the last good snowshoeing day for this season but overall it was a fantastic day and we were stoked to have made it to Eisenhower - thanks Ali and Maddie for another fun adventure!
