Snowshoes necessary for the coming week. All the recent snow and warm conditions have created a deep, unstable snowpack. Wore snowshoes all day except for final quarter mile to summit of Chocorua which was better served with spikes. Dozens of people barebooting, especially to the falls, have postholed the snowshoe trail to oblivion. What makes people continue to plod on in their converse and Nikes while sinking in to snow up to their knees or hips is beyond me, but plenty of folks did just that today. |
