Comments: A FANTASTIC day to be outside for the total solar eclipse. I had asked a friend for suggestions with some criteria and this fit the bill. For the third day in a row, we got the golden ticket trail breaking award. My calves are going to be the finest this side of the Ammonoosuc, I'll tell you what bub. Traffic on FR460 made it firm and fast in the morning for the first 1/3 of a mile. From there at the gate w/ FR104 I broke increasingly deeper and heavier (moisture content) snow. 4" to start, 12-15" up top. We followed the logging road all the way up to a log landing/conifer yard at el 2050. The journey to this location was an absolute treat for the eyes as its about 2 miles of hardwood heavenly bliss. FR seemingly continues from said landing in a general SW direction, however I opted to take a skid line that went in a general SE direction. I found an incredible line through even more incredible woods. I noted none of the obstacles others had encountered (ledge bands). In two fleeting locations care was needed but mainly due to pitch. It never got steep (to me anyways) nor did it ever get even remotely thick (tank top, no blood tribute needed). Enjoyed totality from off the summit with a picnic lunch. Noted temps on my thermometer at 68 in the sun dropping to 43 just after totality. On the way out, significant melting had occurred. What was a completely snow covered road had melted out in spots. Don't worry - there is still a monstrous amount of snow up there. There is no better snow than April snow, pure magic
