Great day. Sunny skies, warming temps, incredible views of the Presidentials from the summits of Starr King and Waumbek. Conditions as expected - wet down low with shallow depth snow initially, then increasing amounts of 100% snow cover for most of the way. Several feet of snow up high. Solid surface with some evidence of post-holing but not too bad. We wore microspikes up and did not post hole. Put on snowshoes for much of the descent from Starr King, which was a good idea as the snow was breaking up and the surface was very uneven. Our party of three saw 13 other hikers and one dog. |
