| Comments: |
Overnight snow left snow conditions firm to start with a trace to an inch of snow powder. Starr King Trail is free of snow/ice until just before the transition from hardwoods to softwoods. Very, very muddy in places. We wore boots so that we could plow through it (rather than cause further erosion/trail creep by going around the mud). Wildflowers not yet out, but not far off.
Patchy ice/snow just before the softwoods, but full snowcover thereafter. Firm enough this morning to support boots, but the snow in the sun was getting soft very quickly. There's a good three feet of snow on the ridge, and it looks like someone found out how soft things can get as evidenced by the large postholes up there. Snowshoes stayed on the pack this morning, but had we been an hour or two later, they would have been in use.
Cloudy morning giving way to partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s down low.
Congratulations to Eric on finishing Grid #2 today. |
