Well, I decided to go for Moosilauke and I didn’t start till about 2:45 PM and there were three cars in the Glencliff lot. I was surprised to still see vehicles, but it was nice to start off on bare ground. I saw some patches of snow around 2500 feet and then a little more snow around 2700 feet. I stayed bare booting for Quite a while. The snow was completely there for sure around 3081 feet. I met two people coming down. I saw snowshoes on their back and they both had spikes on. The guy that I saw closer to carriage Trail saw my snowshoes on my pack and got excited that I had snowshoes. He stated that he can you can see where he had made it as he had no traction whatsoever. I told him that I did have spikes too, and he said he wishes he had that as well. I didn’t realize I had that is where he had turned around. He had called ice, but it was just really hard packed where some butt sweaters had made it pretty solid. that was where I put on my snow shoes since I figured I’d use the telelevators anyways. I got up to carriage Trail and kept the snowshoes on till about 4500 feet where it turned to bare ground fully, left the snowshoes there and continued up to where I could see the summit being a bald There was a very random stretch of a lot of snow, but I booted that area and it went back to bare ground again to the summit. There was no wind and nobody on the top which made for quite relaxing summit. Went back down keeping the snow shoes on til about 3100 feet where there was too much water for me to keep walking on rocks with my snowshoes. I booted carefully for a few more hundred feet for the descent and then it turned to bare ground and I cruised on out making it out before 7 PM which was quite nice . The trail was very stable with minimal post holes which was a bonus for having a late start during 50° weather. |
