Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: First one on Lincoln Brook, which usually doesn’t even register with me, was actually the trickiest. The other larger two crossings were rock hoppable with care and using poles. For the crossing closest to Brutus we went across using rocks and a downed tree about 20 feet down river.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails had some trees to get cleared. Most were step overs. Franconia Falls has a large tree that snapped off and impaled the trail. Not something easy to clear.

Comments
Comments: Lincoln Woods, Black Pond, and the Black Pond bushwhack are snow/ice free. Lincoln Brook had large stretches of monorail interspersed with open trail. We barebooted this. On the way out, I barebooted and Jon used spikes. Once we got to the junction of Brutus bushwhack we decided to continue on Lincoln Brook and take the slide up. We donned snowshoes here. One the open area of the slide, we removed the snowshoes as it was down to bare rock. Once we entered the trees again, we put on the snowshoes and kept them on all the way to the summit and back to the top of Brutus. Brutus quickly went down to mostly bare rock with some ice (mostly avoidable). Bare boots or rock spikes work here. Lincoln Brook hadn’t softened very much once we were down Brutus so snowshoes were not needed. Back at the junction to Black Pond bushwhack, we decided to bushwhack along Lincoln Brook and then Franconia Brook until we met up with the end of the Franconia Falls Trail. Dry trail from here to the parking lot.
