Comments
Comments: Surprised to find there was not much snow on Jewell even up to where the tree line ends. Starts with a lot of bare ground and occasional icy monorail. As the ice/snow becomes more prevalent as you climb it stays frozen solid. I carried snowshoes but wound up leaving them at ~4800 feet once I realized I wasn't going to have a use for them. Gulfside was probably 75-80% bare rock with a dusting of snow. There were occasional snow patches but the snow was firm and they were never long enough to warrant snowshoes. I barebooted to ~4800 feet and then wore very dull Hillsounds (made duller by this hike) from that point until I got most of the way down.

Gorgeous day in spite of things not quite being out of the clouds. Only saw a handful of other hikers.
