Great day in the whites! Jewell is mostly packed frozen over snow, some areas with mud and a monorail below treeline. The snow was pretty stable if you stuck to the middle, lots of deep frozen postholes on either side so I made sure not to stray into an ankle landmine! You could get away with no traction at first but i found it to be slippery. Above treeline it was ice and crust, definitely needed traction. Snowshoes took a ride though!
Took the cog down, pretty stable but again, if you strayed too far off the crust or rocks, you ran the risk of deep postholes. Dirt and mud the last .2 miles of the cog, I love spring time : ) |
