A big ol' mixed bag of trail conditions this afternoon!
The lower thirds of the Winslow and Barlow trails were snow and ice free, with several muddy areas. Above those points, there were intermittent patches of snow and ice all the way to the summit, with Barlow having significantly more of it. The upper half of the Rollins Trail was mostly snow and ice free, but the lower half still had a fair amount of the stuff due to being more sheltered and in the woods. The Lincoln Trail (the last 0.4 mi of it, at least) was mostly snow and ice free.
Traction was not necessary on this hike; I easily barebooted the entire thing. With the much milder weather forecasted for next week, I'm willing to bet that Kearsarge will be totally snow and ice free by the end of it. |
