Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Halfway Brook crossing continues to erode. There is significant damage about 200 yards downstream and 100 yards upstream of Nancy Brook, safe crossing was found 25' upstream
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: As noted above. Nancy Brook jumped its banks in the December storm. Moderate/Significant damage witnessed extending about 200 yards downstream and 100 yards upstream. The upstream portion might require a reroute. The crossing on what used to be the trail is now at a pretty good strainer. I'd estimate a good 250' trail is gone. Water bars will need some rebuilding, there are ample rocks. A few more blazes wouldn't hurt in that serpentine switchback reroute section, it doesn't feel organic and it's pretty courteous.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: About half a dozen butterflies followed me
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I have brought great shame to myself. I lost a hand warmer somewhere on the way to Anderson. I will walk down Main Street in North Woodstock with a bell just yelling SHAME. SHAME. SHAME. as penance, like Cersei Lannister.

Comments
Comments: I did not choose the snowshoe life, the snowshoe life chose me. Thug life 4 eva. If you need this pair, start driving now. It's the best snow I've seen all winter! 0500 start to get on good snow and it did NOT disappoint! WOW!!! Dry/bare trail to just before the Nancy Brook Crossing. Nothing major, 6" or so. Bare trail again to the relocation below the cascades. Rock solid concrete to the cascades. I felt like I was at New England Dragway, I was flying. Snowshoes on at cascades until upon return. Switchback section above cascades is a glorious sidehill. Made amazing time on concrete sidewalk snow to just the Pemi Wilderness sign, to which i launched in a large arc to Anderson. Open for 200 feet, then tight slalom pokers. Ended up finding a dream seam of largely open woods for about 1/2 of the journey. The trek from Anderson to Lowell was pretty pokey as well to drop off, and it looks as though the earth just drops off below you. I found a mix of decent wood and again tight slalom pokey coniferous. I trended east of the summit and ran into some krumoltz but nothing too bad. Great, unique views of Carrigain, Vose, Captain, Hancocks, the Pemi Wilderness, Sandwich Wildernes... yeah not bad. On the way out the snow still was an absolute dream, I could not follow my tracks back out due to just supreme float. Snow ranges from 1-3 feet of old consolidated delight. Still solid but the top inch or so turned to corn. If I sunk two inches at any point during the day I'd say I was being melodramatic. Nothing of real note on the way out aside from warming snow. Someone did post hole while I was out there but its largely avoidable. 95&96 / NH100. Aww yeah! Seriously go get this if you need it, it wont get any better - especially with warm temps coming.
