The entire route was well packed and firm. We used spikes the whole way. We started very early so it is possible snowshoes might be needed along the ridge on a warmer day but the trail there was very uneven so snowshoes would be difficult. We did the loop counter-clockwise and I'd recommend that direction because the trail up to South (counter-clockwise) had been butt-sled before freezing over and had less foot holds than the trail down from North. Spikes provided good traction and there was only one minor ice flow on the trail down from north but the freeze-thaw cycle is starting the process of converting the steep sections to ice. |
