Pine down .2 in that has a herd path around it. Some other trees/leaners way up, but less of an issue. |

Bare trail until just after the first cascade. We donned sharp Hillsounds here and kept them on all day until back at this spot. The snow was extremely firm, even on our bushwhack along the abandoned trail in Jobildunk Ravine. Snowshoes came for a ride and managed to catch on every passing tree limb. Sigh. We had the summit to ourselves except for four gliders circling above us! As we descended, the top inch or so of snow had softened up in the sunny areas. The trail has been badly postholed, but that actually worked to our advantage (especially on the steep descent) as we could just use the postholes like kicked in steps on the steeps. As I said, snowshoes weren’t needed today, but there is A LOT of snow still left up high and once it warms up they’ll definitely be needed. Also, there is enough thick ice on the mile climb beside the cascades that full crampons would not be overkill here. |
