Comments
Comments: I hiked the loop clockwise. The initial stretch of the UNH trail was continuous snow and frozen slush of minimal depth. Based on what I saw I put on the traction. Thereafter, there was a considerable distance of bare ground so I took off the traction for the remainder of the hike. At the higher elevations there were short sections of snow with much of the surface solid. The depth never seemed to exceed a foot and was often much thinner. Some of the rocks had a veneer of ice even at noon. The East Ledges were free of snow and ice as were the summit ledges. The descent on the west branch had short sections of snow but lots of dry surfaces. Allen Ledge was snow free.
Good views from the various ledges as well as some points along the trail.
Talked with hikers from Lincoln, ME and Sturbridge MA.
