| Comments: |
It was a beautiful day to hike Mt. Jefferson for spring. We used spikes most of the way up Jewell. It was mostly firm but it is breaking up in places. Once above treeline, we took off spikes, but there was still enough snow in places to use them. It was a day with many changes between spikes and bare boots. Rock spikes would work better than sharp Hillsounds on the rocks which took a beating. Heading up Jefferson, there is more exposed rock than snow, but again there are areas that were slippery without spikes.
It was an incredible April day to be above treeline. Ran into about 10 other happy hikers with big smiles on their faces.
