| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Bungy Road (eastern side) was in great shape, though towards where it becomes class VI, it is rutted up petty good. I was able to make it all the way in on Champion Road to the logging pull off with a low clearance vehicle, which was an absolute miracle. (Gate was open) This alone saved me 2.5 miles instead of having to park at the junction of Bungy and Champion |

I was able to cross Nash Street without getting wet without much thought, upon return my boots where soaked so self preservation was out the window. No issues though |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I absolutely love that the Cohos trail puts chicken wire on their bog bridges. That's absolute genius. |

"It always rains in Colebrook" - quite possibly a lost Carpenter's track? I've been itching to get this in but it keeps raining - as it was my antepenultimate (now there's a scrabble word for you) NH100 peak. Thank goodness, it rained again this morning despite not being in the forecast. This hike defines the term "OPEN WOODS" - like it will be the one I compare that phrase to in the future. This one is a perfect one for those working on their map/compass skills. I basically followed a prior report of Jeremy's, which was spot on. I followed the logging road, which is wide but revegetating in places for a time. I departed at a skid road prior to it coming to Moran Brook, finding wide open woods with maturing hobblebush growing, not a problem for right now. I was able to stay on a bearing the entire way to Nash Stream Road from here. I opted to split Moran Notch on the way in just to check it out, cool spot. Followed Cohos Trail(logging road) for about 0.5 until it angles north east, then launched from here. Snowshoes on immediately in the woods, patchy/bare at 2750 to approximately 2-3' solid goodness at 3615. Was again able to practically hold a straight bearing from road to peak with barely any obstacles or deviation. You could likely land a plane in these woods, though it wouldn't have wings after, but its so open its wild! Much different then Lowell/Anderson. Gets thicker at maybe 3300 but that's being melodramatic, very easy to bob and weave. Same names/timing keep appearing from last year, looks like no one has been out to these since Oct. On way out I retraced steps, with the exception of trending a little higher up and eastward on the return through Moran Notch, following moose paths. This made for ridiculously quick work. 7.2 miles / 3:40. |
