Trails
Trails: Hubbard Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, May 3, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Long drive into the Hubbard Brook forest without seeing anyone else. It was my first time here, very neat. I wouldn't have concerns about driving a non-AWD car back here.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few were challenging rock hops, but my feet stayed dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Quite a few blowdowns (or chowdowns, as they were felled by beavers), some of which required leaving the trail. I didn't find the flagging around the first beaver meadow that's mentioned on Guthook/Farout and (I think) the WMNF guide. There weren't a lot of blazes in this area and a GPS helped.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Mine had fun. Lots of water available. I saw a few beavers around, so if they are the type to chase wildlife, be mindful.
Bugs
Bugs: A few were around, but no bites.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Two mylar balloons were packed out.

Comments
Comments: A little tracing trip in this neat forest. I had heard the Hubbard Brook Tr was kind of a mess, but there's been some trail work over the last few years and I found it pretty easy to follow and surprisingly dry. See the maintenance note about the flagging.
