|

Minor brooks were easy to cross |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails generally in good condition. There are no improvements on these trails such as rock steps, water bars, or bog bridges. There has been a few spots with erosion and there is a potential for future erosion.
One good size evergreen across the Old Path not too far up from the junction with the New Path. About a foot in diameter with some branches sawed off to allow for a straddle over the tree. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs |
|
| Bugs: |
A few flying around. Not bothersome. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Found a bundle of firewood on the Old Path at the foot of the final ascent to North Doublehead. I brought the wood up to the cabin steps. |

| Comments: |
No snow on the New Path all the way up to the ridge where there is a sign for the spur trail to South Doublehead. Small patches of thin snow/ice on the ridge sections of New Path and Old Path. The upper section of the Old Path below the ridge (signed junction with the New Path) has some snow/ice with one short stretch with enough snow/ice to consider using traction. I could see some snow as well as bare ground at the top of the ski trail. I did not hike the ski trail, so I don't know the prevalence of the snow on this trail above the junction where the Old Path diverges. The lowest section of the Old Path and ski trail had a lot of mud and running water.
Nice views in all directions at various outlooks at the higher elevations. The best viewpoint is just off the New Path shortly after the junction of the South Doublehead spur heading to Old Path.
The cabin is locked. There was a roar of water down in the valley east of Doublehead (East branch of Saco River or Slippery Brook?).
Saw no other hikers on the trails although there were other vehicles in the lot. |
