| Comments: |
The first mile of Hancock Notch trail is just dirt which then transitions to a grab bag of randomly alternating mud, running water, and thin crumbling monorail. Once at Cedar Brook trail this disappears and it becomes dry ground almost entirely until the Hancock Loop where it switches back to crumbling monorail. About halfway up the south loop it forms up a bit until the summit which is completely bare. The ridge connecting north and south peaks is mostly monorail with some spots of bare ground. The trail descending north peak is mostly snow free with some patches of remaining ice. My spring spikes worked fine. Don't ruin your good sharp winter spikes with all the exposed rocks. The monorail is way too narrow at this point for snowshoes to be of any use |
