Comments
Comments: We saw three other people today and that's it. I've never seen it so quiet up in the Presidentials--it was really peaceful. Forecast called for cloudy conditions and possibly some passing showers but we had partly sunny, high ceiling cloud cover most of the day with about 5-10mph wind (at times no wind at all) and in the mid-30s on top. It was a gorgeous day for a hike. The monorail/snow is still an issue on Ammo--we bare booted it until the Gem Pool and then wore spikes most of the rest of way up to the hut. We didn't need traction the rest of the day. In some spots we found ourselves on short snowfields, but the snow was melted enough to dig in without spikes. This was my first time hiking down the Cog and I did not love it. Yeah, it's the most direct route, but you pay for it with the steep grade. The first 2/3 was walking down a steep and loose slide and my knees are undecided whether they will forgive me or not.
