It was a great day for a hike! Started about 9 am due to a 3.5 hr drive from RI that morning. Temps were 50 degrees and about 35 at the summit. There was less mud than I expected which was nice. The mud that was there was easily avoided and was able to rock hop at some areas. Ice started about a mile and a half in but was able to avoid most of it by walking along the edge of the trail. I was able to bare boot until the last few hundred yards before the summit of Starr King. Micro spikes for the rest of the way to Waumbeck. There is a decent monorail but on the way back down it was starting to break down and get soft from the days traffic and warm temps. Overall I couldn't have been more pleased with this hike and the nice people I met along the way. |
