Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Mountain Pond Trail, as it is gated to Slippery Brook TH. It was noted some extensive work on Town Hall Road and Slippery Brook road has been performed since a 5/5 report. Exceptional road now with just a handful of icebergs. From Mountain Pond Gate on it was still wet/spongy on the road, so the gate closure is not surprising.

Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest was had. I was elated to see this road open this week and the it beckons the return of "Stupid S@$@ Saturdays!" Launching from Mountain Pond TH, FR17/A where very quick work. FR17A is very overgrown. From the gate to slippery brook crossing its evident it jumped its banks in December and there is large amount of till on the road. A prior report suggested paralleling the road due to the vegetation, and I agree with that sentiment. I made it to a large log landing at the western terminus of FR17A, and found a dizzying network of skidder roads. By some miracle, I was able to keep finding them going in the direction that I actually wanted to go - a true rarity. It got to the point where I just took a compass bearing and just held that. The woods where an absolute dream and I had no trouble moving around and making great progress. Like... 1.5-2mph progress. Screaming fast for a whack. Absolutely wild. I was actually trying to get into bad wood here to look for treasure but kept getting pulled away. I ended up on the nice defined ridgeline SW of the summit and criss-crossed its herd path highway/abandoned sable mountain trail. Incredibly short work to get to the summit. Last sign in was 11/23. On way out I took a compass bearing for a different line and was rewarded with some treasure. I opted to bushwhack parallel to in portions or otherwise cut FR17A as it had rained and within 50 feet I was a drowned rat. Thanks Brian Bond for some beta. Thanks to Nordic_Gal and zPorter for creating a monster.
