Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings took some thinking but pretty manageable since we brought waterproof boot covers to walk through a bit easier. The USGS gauge for the East branch was running at about 450 cfs.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails are in pretty good shape . Lincoln Brook wasn’t as muddy as it can be . Black Pond trail has fresh yellow blazes now. Both of the bushwacks have become easy herd paths to follow. The slide heading up to owls head is slowly getting grown over. We haven’t been up that part in nearly two years and it seems to have less open space than I recall. Plenty of erosion happening too.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen
Bugs
Bugs: A few mosquitoes and black flies mainly in the lower bushwack. Not enough to use the bug spray or head net, yet.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Spotted a new to me artifact along black pond trail , some type of sled runner. Always fun taking a walk through history out there.

Comments
Comments: Forecast looked perfect for a visit to the middle of the pemi. We only got rained on very briefly. Trails were mostly dry except for the typical muddy sections but really easy to navigate. The slide and the bushwack down were more wet from some misty rain but not too terrible. Our most recent trip in March required trail breaking with snowshoes, so this day felt so much easier! We didn’t set any speed records, but the time to make good time to this peak is now. The only ice remnants we encountered were just before the top of the ridge and along to the true summit. Not enough to use spikes. Glad to have another month done for Owls head.
