Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Parker, Cave Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Mt. Langdon Trail, Cave Mountain Path, Mt. Parker Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, May 19, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The small lot closest to Mt. Langdon Trailhead was eroded/rough enough that I was reluctant to drive very far into it. The part next to the road is OK, though, and there are also two other nearby lots on the other side of the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Two easy rock-hops about a mile up Mt. Langdon Trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One large blowdown halfway up Cave Mtn. Path is causing a herd path. Mt. Langdon Trail and Mt. Parker Trail are in great condition and are easy to follow. There are two or three blowdowns on Mt. Langdon Trail that are high enough that most people can walk under them without stooping, but they (and a sawed-off branch at close to head level on the way up to Oak Ridge) might be a problem in winter with deep snow on the ground.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Nice trail for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: There were some mosquitoes and black flies, but they were not biting me much, if at all.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: To the lady who lost a yellow glove: sorry, we didn't find it!

Comments
Comments: Not a trace of snow or ice anywhere on the route up to Mt. Parker. A hiker coming from Mt. Resolution told us that even on that higher mountain, one did not need microspikes, that on Mt. Resolution there were only a few short stretches of monorail remaining, at most 10 ft. each.

The trees are currently a strikingly bright light green, with flowers in many places along the trails (painted trillium, in particular).

Cave Mtn. Path is steep, but I wouldn't call it "extremely steep" as the White Mountain Guide does. Descending it did require some care, with all the leaves and loose dirt.
