Comments
Comments: Edmands Path was almost entirely free of snow/ice until the top 1/2 mile or so, none in our group felt the need to put on spikes. Everything above treeline was clear.

I'm primarily writing this report to throw out a warning to those using Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail in the next couple weeks until full meltout - conditions seem to have changed since the report from last week. There is still a significant stretch of quickly deteriorating snow that we encountered while descending, starting just below the hut. In many spots it is undermined by flowing water, and may present a dangerous situation if you posthole or break through in the wrong spot. One of the water crossings requires one to step across onto a thin snow shelf hanging a few feet above the river (which you would not see if you were ascending, as you'd be on top of it). Three of us used microspikes, one barebooted down. We also encountered hordes of unprepared visitors struggling to ascend toward Washington in all manner of footwear, including Crocs and bald tennis shoes...'tis the season. The snow ended about .5 above Gem Pool and was smooth, albeit slippery and muddy, sailing after that.
