Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Shelburne Moriah Mountain, Mt. Moriah, NH
Trails
Trails: Shelburne Trail, Kenduskeag Trail, Rattle River Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, May 25, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking for the Shelburne Trail is on Route 2. This adds at least an extra mile of road walking along Connor Brook Road, which is closed (washed out), and probably won't reopen this year. It's an easy walk, and then you're walking the woods road on Shelburne Trail for another 2 miles, so prepare for some road walking (it goes by quick)
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only 2 major crossings on Rattle River Trail, both very easily rock hoppable right now with the low water, but could be treacherous in high water
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Long sections of brushing needed on the Kenduskeag Trail, both east and west of Shelburne Moriah. Getting close to having negative clearance, but easily passable for hikers still
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great for dogs aside from some short scrambles
Bugs
Bugs: Some black flies and mosquitos, not bad

Comments
Comments: Very quiet hike even on a busy weekend. Don't step off the bog bridges on Kenduskeag Trail around the summit of Shelburne Moriah. I'm serious.
