Fun times on the Carters today. We didn’t see anyone until summit of Hight, where four guys and their teen sons had camped five feet off the trail just below the summit. Ascent of Carter Dome from hut was free of snow/ice. There was a .2 mile stretch just north of summit as reported two days ago. We never felt the need to get our spikes out. Margaret loved goofing around on the monorail. She couldn’t understand why I didn’t share her enthusiasm:) a few small patches on both sides of Hight, but once again never felt a need for traction. I’d say carrying spikes unnecessary unless you are very cautious in which case they would be useful for 10 minutes. Chatted with a few friendly folks today including David, an ADK grid finisher/ aspiring NH gridiot:)A few comments on Margaret’s energy level as she was skipping down the Imp trail rather quickly! Awesome weather out there this morning!!! #34-36 for the kiddo:) |
