Trails
Trails: The Direttissima, Glen Boulder Trail, Davis Path, Isolation Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, May 28, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Glen Ellis Trailhead parking is closed and I was cautioned at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center not to park on the road and that the first 0.4 mile section of Glen Boulder Trail is also closed so decided to start/end on The Direttissima. Added 1.2 miles to an already long hike but is what it is!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy to cross with poles for balance on slippery rocks just above water flow.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Generally in great shape. Stretch of Glen Boulder Trail above the boulder and before the Davis Path junction is very overgrown so a tight walk through there. There is also a ton of mud on Davis Path in the lower levels of the gap between the junction with Glen Boulder Trail and the Mt. Isolation spur. There had been log bridges at one point but there are only remnants of them left now.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one big dog that had to stop about .2 miles below Glen Boulder due to the scrambles…she could not make those. Maybe small dogs that you could just lift up/down the scrambles.
Bugs
Bugs: Plentiful

Comments
Comments: Overall amazing but just really long hike with a little over 5K vert of climbing. Much of the stretch from Glen Boulder to the Davis Path junction and then another .4 miles beyond that is very exposed to weather so just be prepared. Just one maybe 7 foot long stretch of snow that you can’t get around but easy to walk across…no spikes needed.
