| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Haystack road is in excellent shape. Was the first to park here today - 4 cars there when I returned but still plenty of parking left. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
Spent a little time surveying possible crossings other than at the trail end which had fast moving water through a narrow area. Selected a spot downstream about 100 feet following a diagonal across the stream heading upstream along a line of rocks. There was only one short but relatively shallow spot with fast moving water. Chose to use water shoes rather than bags. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail section before the river crossing has undergone some improvements over the past year or so. Stepped over and around several blowdowns across the trail - a sizeable one early on about 12" in diameter along with a smaller one. After the river crossing the trail gets rough with sections that have carried overflow water from heavy rains. |

| Bugs: |
It stayed in the 50's most of the day which kept the bugs away. Saw a few after crossing the river on the return. |

| Comments: |
Despite overcast skies all day it was a great day to do this hike given temps in the low 50's with hardly any bugs. The crossing was not difficult and consistent with a USGS reading of 2.5 feet for the Upper Ammonoosuc River near Groveton, NH, Conn. River basin. The Little River empties into the Ammonoosuc River which heads west to the Connecticut River. The reading serves as a rough guideline for a possible safe crossing of the Little River for the future. |
