Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some of the bog bridges on Kilkenny Ridge near Kilback Pond are in various states of decomposition.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Careful near the cliff. Luckily my dog is on leash. She’s no stranger to hiking, but, for some reason, tried to approach the edge.
Bugs
Bugs: Deer flies were in abundance in the woods (so, basically, the whole hike). The instant we stepped out onto the ledge, we were swarmed by black flies (which promptly disappeared when we stepped back into the woods).

Comments
Comments: Warning: there’s some mud along Kilkenny in the direction of Kilback Pond that looks dried out, BUT IS A FOOT DEEP. Our dog sunk to her belly and I immediately tried a course correction … but failed. In fact I failed three times over the course of half an hour. It literally looks just like regular, slightly muddy but drying out ground. Until you step on it (or, rather, in it).

Blue sky day today so views were great. Pics and vid’s will be up on Instagram later (sadly, I did not get a vid of the sucking mud pit, though I did get pics of a different sucking mud pit).
