| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Our trip’s purpose was to brush the Square Ledge Trail. The three of us leap frogged each other and lopped madly through hobble bush, beech and maple saplings for two hours. In a few places we couldn’t believe the difference. We almost made it to the first Brook crossing, and after that the trail looked good. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
A lot of people had dogs heading off to Whiteface/Pass. We saw only a group of three people with two dogs in our travels. |
|
| Bugs: |
SO MANY. And with voracious appetites! Worst while we were working (stirring up leaf), and on the Paugus Pass side of our loop. |

| Comments: |
Old Mast Road was a pleasant walk up to the four way intersection! Square Ledge was beautiful, such a unique view! We noticed how well the water bars on Oliverian Brook Trail had been cleaned up, and found nothing of complaint outside of the masses of biting bugs. We snuck in a quick out and back on the Lawrence Trail before making our final descent. Kelley Trail was a stark contrast for smooth sailing. The top half of the trail has many places with poor footing, big blocky rocks and some decent erosion to work around. This was also one of the worst places for bugs because you couldn’t move quickly.
We really hope someone goes up to Square Ledge from Ferncroft now! :) |
