 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Rock hopped first two and walked through the next 7 or 8. It was not warm-toes were numb until the Cornice. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One problematic blowdown at 2.2 mile mark from trailhead in the ravine. ~15” conifer across trail where it is on a narrow raised embankment-not an easy detour. Rest of trails in good shape |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Wouldn’t take a dog on these trails unless they are used to the extreme ruggedness and sharp rocks |
|
 | Bugs: |
None until descending Castle. Black flies started swarming at the highest castle and were voracious until the trailhead. Head net was crucial. |

Another epic hike with my daughter. Ascended Castle Ravine and descended Castle trail. Also redlined the entire Cornice Trail. Margaret was not a fan of the cornice- I think she had us at a .5 mph pace. She was much faster on the ravine head wall and said she loved it. Had a 100+ pound rock flip on me on the Cornice and bash my foot/ankle. Near catastrophe but escaped with bruises and abrasions. I didn’t think the Cornice was too terrible-the views are splendid. Just very rough but after the ravine not so bad. Weather was perfect I’d say and we didn’t see that many folks today. 37/48 for M and down to six trails for my redline:) |
