Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The first crossing of Downes Brook seems to always require some planning, even when water levels are relatively low. The other three crossings in this section have more rocks to work with.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: National Trails Day (June 1) was a few days late for me this year but I'm happy to report that the lower 1.4 mi. of Downes Brook Trail from the trailhead to the wilderness boundary is all set for the season. Six blowdowns removed and all drainages cleaned (this trail has no blazing to deal with). Signage is in good shape. The wilderness boundary sign was a bit wobbly so I stabilized the base with some rocks. Brushed in a couple herd paths and removed the fire ring near the second brook crossing. Again. I removed it last year too.

Bugs: All the bugs were ... abundant.

Comments
Comments: A lovely day along a lovely trail, following the brook the entire way. This trail doesn't see tons of traffic (I didn't see anyone today) but the lower portion is ready to go when you are.
