| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Used the limited parking on Long Pond Road (which is currently closed after the southern end of Long Pond due to washouts). Room for maybe 2-3 cars, 4 if parked smart. Road is otherwise in fine shape. |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All easy rock hops. Watch yourself on the mossy ones, they're tricky! |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A decent duck under, and one large step over that people are walking around...both on the northern end, prior to meeting up with the old Tunnel Brook road. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
This would be a fun trail for dogs, a lot of brooks to cool off in. |
|
| Bugs: |
Worst around the ponds, as expected, otherwise nothing unusual. A couple tick checks here and there on trail came up empty, I'm good with that! Only wore the white mountain bug oil today, on my legs (shorts). |

This is a report for an out and back trip to the Benton Trail, starting at the southern terminus on Long Pond Road.
For anyone wondering if they should venture onto this trail, the answer is YES. It is incredibly maintained, and no trouble navigating. It looks like a fair amount of downed trees from the winter were maybe cleared earlier this season - a lot of fresher looking cuts. I did not feel like I needed to take out the GPS or map/compass to be sure I was heading the right way. Some sections are brushy (mostly by the ponds), but I found they had a healthy foot bed. A couple of reroutes in the same pond areas...One was not so obvious to me heading north, but again the old foot bed was still clear enough that I managed just fine, and found it on the return trip. Blazing is a bit sparse between the ponds and the old Tunnel Brook road, but honestly it never even felt like I needed them! Unfortunately I didn't see much by way of wildlife today, other than a very protective spruce grouse and her chicks on the return trip. We yelled at each other, and carried on our ways. |
