| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Sawyer River Rd is closed and will obviously remain closed for the foreseeable future. There were a few cars in the lot off 302 when I arrived at 7:45am. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
No issues |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Desolation had one or two easy blowdowns, Carrigain Notch trail had some severe erosion/washouts in a few spots. In one spot there was a 6+ foot trench across the trail that appeared to have formed from flooding. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw 5 or 6 out there today. Some on leash, some not. All friendly. |
| Bugs: |
They were around but only a few mosquitos actually made a move on me though I've seen complaints elsewhere so maybe I just don't taste good. |

| Comments: |
Amazing Day. Sawyer River Road -> Signal Ridge Trail -> Desolation Trail -> Carrigain Notch Trail and back to the lot off 302 came out to about 17.8mi round trip. The Signal Ridge trail seems to be in great shape. It's gentle up until shortly after the split from Carrigain Notch Trail, after which it becomes pretty steep until treeline (2+ miles). It was very windy on top of the viewing platform at the summit and even more so along the exposed portion of Signal Ridge. The views from both of these spots were phenomenal. Descending Desolation Trail was very steep at the top and it was clear from the condition of the trail that it is not used nearly as much as Signal Ridge. The Pemi wilderness is absolutely magical along Desolation and Carrigain Notch, which I had nearly all to myself. |
