Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Good lot, part of the NH State Park system. There is a box for donations. Since the falls are only 20 minutes away and not difficult, this is a popular tourist hike. Be prepared for the lot to be full. Some folks park along side the road. If you're one of them, park carefully. Space available on 302, you can walk up the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Avalanche Brook, at the base of Ripley Falls, was a rock hop. May be difficult in times of high water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Up to the falls, great! Once you cross and start ascending, there is a variety of conditions. Very brushy in spots before you get to the Frankenstein Cliff Trail. Several blow downs in this area as well. But never difficult to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of water fun up to the falls. If you take the rail up the side of the falls, DO NOT let them get too close to the top.
Bugs
Bugs: A few deer flies. A variety of lovely butterflies.

Comments
Comments: So why am I posting a report two days later about an obscure trail? 1. Info may be helpful for tracers if they haven't done this one yet. 2. Good idea for an iffy day. We originally were thinking of a loop of the two falls, returning to the car by Maggie's Run (which we haven't done yet) and a shortened road walk. But a late start, my famous speed, and getting over bronchitis lead us to do an out and back. Brook crossing was not difficult, trail was a lot steeper in reality than it was on paper. Several Lady Slippers (mostly white) and Bunchberries. As mentioned before, the upper part of the trail needs a trim and there are several blow downs. Beautiful trail.
