Comments
Comments: Did the Wildcats from the south, which was great. And a beautiful, mostly-clear day in the White Mountains!
I hiked by myself on the approach, from Bog Brook trailhead up to Carter Notch Hut, but from there, of course, there were more hikers. My intention had been to hike along the ridge and take the Wildcat Valley Ski Trail down from Wildcat "E", at the top of the ski-lift; this trail is not on the White Mountain Guide maps, but is shown on the GPS app I use. And is referred to in various locations on-line. It would have made a nice loop.
The hike up Wildcat River Trail from Bog Brook trailhead is pleasant and without any serious steep sections, which is an advantage when compared to access to Wildcat Ridge from the Pinkham side. But, of course, when I arrived at Carter Notch, and took that left-hand turn to start of Wildcat... very steep! The ridge walk over to "B," "C," "D," and "E" was pleasant. But even though my GPS app took me to a couple of feet from the so-called start of the Wildcat Valley Ski Trail, just near the top of the ski lift, and I could see where it might have been, it looked very overgrown. So I turned around and went back over "D," "C,", "B," and "A," before dropping back the way I came.
