Date of Hike: Wednesday, June 26, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Road to the trailhead has some washout spots and a spot where the rains from last night pooled up across the entire road. No issues with a Prius, so most cars should be fine.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easily crossed
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blowdowns on Brook and Liberty. All easily hopped over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not on Brook Trail, unless you want to be lifting/carrying for a while. Or I suppose they could bushwhack around the steeps in the woods for a bit.
Bugs
Bugs: Upon opening the car door, I was met by a swarm of deer flies. 15 ended up on my patch after the first 1/2 mile. All bugs in play today below treeline. Above treeline was glorious, thanks to steady winds from the west.

Comments
Comments: Even though this was a Wednesday, with the good weather, I was amazed to have the summit to myself for over 45 mins (and this was not a sunrise hike). Only on my descent down Liberty, did I meet anyone at all and those were only a group of 3, 1 and 3.

One mile from the TH descending Liberty, I stumbled upon what appeared to be an adolescent black bear about 10’ off the trail. The bear took off in one direction and I the other, quickly.
