| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
One of us got dropped off at the trailhead for Welton Falls (North) in Hebron on Valley View road. There's parking there for a couple of vehicles on the side of the road. The other one of us parked at the Welton Falls (South) trailhead in Alexandria, just on the side of the right-of-way that leads to the trail -- careful to pull way out off to the side so as not to remotely impact access for the residents nearby who use the right-of-way to get to the driveway for their home. |

Elwell Trail between power line cut, west to intersection with Welton Falls Trail (South) is a tad brushy with beech saplings/branches. Otherwise, everything is in good shape. (See additional notes, below.) |

| Comments: |
This was a work trip -- to strim the overgrown Elwell Trail power line cut so that the footbed was obvious; strim the overgrown final 0.1 miles of Welton Falls Trail (South) before its intersection with the Elwell Trail and install some blaze poles there to guide one to the intersection; refresh blazes on Welton Falls Trail (South); and do some minor brushing on that section, as well.
Some minor strimming is still in order on a couple of sections where the Welton Falls Trail (South) crosses overgrown old logging cuts, but the footbed/corridor is obvious, as are blazes and new cairns. An additional cairn or blaze pole is needed on the same trail where it crosses a logging landing near Gove Road (from logging several years ago that caused some re-working of the current trail) to guide one across it, north. We'll get to this on the next trip out.
Otherwise, the entire Welton Falls Trail and the section of Elwell Trail that runs concurrent with it are in decent shape right now.
Enjoy the lovely strimmed sections for the next few weeks before they begin to grow back in a bit! |
