Bug-free hike until I reached the Attitash Trail, where I was swarmed by mosquitoes, a few black flies and some other tiny flying, non-biting creatures, but I was easily able to outpace them for the last few miles. |

This was an absolutely beautiful hike. I only saw a few people all day, and I had the glorious North Moat summit all to myself. The trail from South summit to Middle summit is not well-marked. I enjoyed a short bushwhack over to West Moat, but I ran into some less than pleasant, thick spruce blowdown crap just below the summit, so I turned back to the trail. Lots of veery, hermit thrush, Swainson's thrush, winter wren, white-throated sparrow, yellow-rumped warbler, pine grossbeak, filling the forest with beautiful sound. |
