| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at the Welton Falls (South) trailhead in Alexandria, just on the side of the right-of-way that leads to the trail -- careful to pull way out off to the side so as not to remotely impact access for the residents nearby who use the right-of-way to get to the driveway for their home. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Nothing of note -- but water levels are pretty low at the few stream crossings, including Templeton Brook. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails are fine shape; see notes, below. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
| Bugs: |
Deer flies and occasional eye flies -- the stiff breeze kept most everything at bay. |

| Comments: |
This was a work trip to finish up what we had left undone during Thursday's work trip -- to strim the couple of sections where the Welton Falls Trail (South) crosses overgrown old logging cuts; install several new blaze poles on the same trail where it crosses a logging landing near Gove Road (from logging several years ago that caused some re-working of the current trail) to guide one across it, north; and final brushing, including some to improve line of site of blazes. We added one new large cairn at the logging landing -- a proto Edmands Col cairn that we'll keep enlarging until it's a few feet tall (there's a very good supply of loose stones nearby). We also brushed the Ewell Trail between the Welton Falls Trail (South) and the power line cut.
With this, the entire Welton Falls Trail and the section of Elwell Trail that runs concurrent with it are in great shape right now. |
