Comments
Comments: Day 1: Got a 5 pm start and made it to a stealth site off of Eagle Link to camp by 8:00 pm. East Branch trail had some deep mud nearing Perkins Notch. Met 2 other backpackers heading there. Eagle Link was a nice gentle climb, but so overgrown I feared it might be an abandoned route. Day 2: Slippery Brook trail back to the road was in good shape, went by quick. After a short road walk, I decided to follow the old East branch trail (unmaintained) rather than the road, since it seemed like I could bail out easily. Gaia says it’s 3.2 miles. The first 2 miles you can imagine there being a trail, but after the road crossing I was regretting my decision to go through a beaver marsh. No chance of dry shoes here, it was just plowing through thick weeds and mud. I had a swim at the end and changed my shoes, feeling satisfied.
