Bugs: Deer flies were ferocious again. Could deter them with a pole handle higher than my head, but some were smarter than that. Rocket21 picked up one tick, probably by the highway grass.

Comments: Another day another trail! Saw quite a few people coming down as I went up, I think a lot of the cars in the lot at the end of Carter Notch Road belonged to people doing Hall’s Ledge. The Carter Notch side is a well traveled forest road within a network of xc trails, but there is very good signage as well as a clear direction of where the path goes. The field prior to the “viewpoint” provides the best views in my opinion. The actual viewpoint seems very grown up, though in its defense the clouds were descending and limiting what you would actually see. Turning left to head down to Route 16...why yes that is the trail. Clearly the lesser used of the two paths, it changed right over to a traditional woods trail - night and day! This side seems lightly used, is growing in with the addition of some pretty difficult footing in places. The steepest section has the hardest footing, loose and a lot of branches too.
